a busy mom
and her bullet journal
For some time, I kept on using my Piccadilly notebook (my original bullet journal) to draft new layouts and ideas. After a while, it proved to be fine when it was a very high-level idea. Unfortunately, when I had to move things to my Leuchtturm1917, I was facing many difficulties.
I ended up buying another notebook just to try out different ideas. But this may not be the most cost-effective solution. Therefore, I came up with this other idea: Virtual draft-board. And this is what you will need if you want to try this idea:
With today's technology, you may have access to a touch-screen. That's not my case. So I improvise using an app on my phone.

I just wanted to check in. I'm dealing with a difficult personal situation at this time. Therefore, I won't be able to post as frequently or in-length as I would like to. In the meantime, I just hope you are all enjoying your journaling these days and getting inspired in many ways.
Happy journaling! A new month is here and this prompted me to make changes to my monthly setup. I always use a calendar view for my monthly log. For the longest time I tried to use the original monthly log, to not avail. I still use that one for my work bullet journal. However, because I'm a very visual person, I struggle a lot with that format. Therefore, back in May, I started to use an actual calendar view.
This month, I decided to tweak it a little bit. I made the calendar smaller, which gave me more rows at the bottom of the spread, as well as more space to the right margin of the right page. I can now use this extra space at the bottom for my habit tracker. Even though I said in my last post that I was not going to keep a habit tracker anymore, I decided to give it one more chance and I reduced the number of habits to the ones that made most sense to me and my current living situation. Once in a while you may need to stop and think if you're not overdoing it. I've realized I've been spending too much time every Sunday or Monday in trying to set my weekly spreads out. I started to use the bullet journal because I needed to get better organized and save time. Now that I've been using the bullet journal for about seven months, I think I've overdone it. I started very minimalist and then I realized the potential of this incredible system. I started adding collections and trying different spreads and ideas. Eventually, it started to get more and more complicated. Or maybe complicated isn't the right word here. I think every thing that I've done so far has or had a purpose. I think I got carried away. That's a much better choice of words.
I'm going to confess that this is going to be a totally show-off type of post. You're going to have to forgive me, but I'm happy. Why? Because when I was in Secondary School, I wanted to be a graphics designer. I was constantly drawing and sketching. My mother has a natural talent for it. My father also had a nag for it and he actually studied something related to that. I'm not sure what exactly because my parents separated right after I was born, I never really met my father, and my mother won't talk much about him. But one thing I know for sure is that he could design sailboats, he loved drawing, and he was really good at it. It even landed a job at a major automaker. I can't always come up with things from scratch. Like my mom, I'm much better at copying and adapting than creating something on my own. Either way, the more I bullet journal, the more of my old self that comes back, which is something I need right now since I am going through some hard and difficult times in my personal life.
Anyway, I asked which markers people were using to create headers like the one in the image above. Since I worked in Information Technology as a technical writer and web designer for many years, and with not a very good budget that would I allow me to get fancy tools like Photoshop, I had to learn to make-do with whichever tool my employers would authorize me to use. In other words, I was always reduced to use whichever Microsoft application my assigned computer would have. Since there is so much you can do with an application like Paintbrush, you have to become creative in other ways besides artful.
Hi, again! I hope you enjoyed your Labor Day weekend and, if you have children who started school today, that it was not a very crazy one for you, trying to get everything ready.
Today I just wanted to share how I carry my supplies and journals with me. At first, I had a dedicated section in my laptop backpack for everything. However, that's my work backpack and I would forget to take things out. That's when I thought about getting a case or something, just to carry everything with me. At first, I considered using a tablet case. But then I realized that I was not going to have enough room to carry the two journals, as well as my supplies. A Mother's Journey - Guided Journal by Kathy Davis I found this guided journal at an office supply store. I like the idea behind the journal. Each page prompts you for different thoughts, ideas, feelings, memories, and more. It was the last one left. I didn't think it twice and grabbed it. I never really thought about using the journal itself because I do not want to carry more than one notebook. I just fell in love with the idea behind it and thought I could incorporate it to my bullet journal in the shape of collections.
Here's a tracker I created to help me remember my daughter's immunizations. I basically copied the one from the CDC where you can download it as a PDF. However, it does not have room to write down the dates. You could use the yellow bars. But I do not like carrying extra papers. Either way, I had some time in my hands and remade it in my bullet journal. By the way, it is a good idea to go back to the CDC page and make sure that they have not updated the vaccination schedule. As we all know, new discoveries are done every day. By the time your child may need a new shot, they could have discovered a new vaccine or an exciting one could have become obsolete. Today I'm going to be sharing the bullet-journal version of the baby tracker I used when my daughter was a newborn with some additions. As soon as my daughter was born, I realized that she was not a baby who would cry that much. If you have children, you know that crying is the way they have to communicate when something is bothering them: A wet diaper, hunger, over-stimulation, boredom, hot, cold, etc. Eventually, you start even learning the different cries a baby may have. The way a baby cries when hungry is not the same way he or she may cry when wet.
My daughter was no exception to that; however, she was, for most part, a very content and happy baby. She didn't cry much and she didn't cry at all when she needed a diaper change. Now that she just turned 2 years old, she still doesn't cry or anything when she needs a diaper change. In fact, the only way you know that she needs a clean diaper is because of the "beautiful" smell trace she leaves behind and wherever she goes. Therefore, I realized soon after she was born that I was going to need a system to track down her nature calls, as well as feedings (the latter, to keep my own sanity since I was breastfeeding, pumping, and supplementing with formula.) |
