a busy mom
and her bullet journal
Welcome! For my first post, I would like to share the log I currently use for tracking my daughter's day. She just turned 2 years old and she's an incredibly active little girl. Since I work full-time, my mom watches after her while I'm at the office and she then reports back to me. Weekly logs are not included in the original bullet journal. In fact, the original bullet journal offers just the Future Log for future planning. I need more than just that, especially as the months go by. As a result, I have a couple of weekly logs each week: One is for my own personal use and the other one to track my daughter's days. For both my weekly logs, I use a full spread per week and both my logs start the week on Mondays. In case you were wondering, I'm using a medium-size Leuchtturm1917 dotted grid notebook. Note: In case you're new to the bullet journal or the Leuchtturm notebooks with dotted grids, each page has 26 columns across and 38 rows down. For my daughter's weekly log, I use the left page to track the days of the week and the right page for daily notes. Note: Since Spanish is my first language, it is more comfortable for me to create my personal bullet journal pages in that language. I provide translations throughout my posts when I consider it beneficial and for better comprehension. I would also like to apologize for the messy colourful patch and the black line in the image. I did that to protect my daughter's privacy. My daughter's weekly log. Left page, Weekly Log / Tracker; right page, Daily Notes. Left page (Weekly Log or Tracker): I create 7 squares, one for each day of the week. My daily squares are 8x8 dotted squares. At this time, I mostly track down her meals. My mom and I plan my daughter's meals together and, by tracking her meals on my journal, I make sure she gets a varied diet and I don't end up feeding her the same thing twice during the day. I also write down her pediatrician or other upcoming appointments. By the way, I also track these appointments on my Future Log, as well as my monthly and weekly logs and trackers. I rather have these three to four times than in just one place and then forget about them, which has happened before, even when I use Google and my phone calendar to remind myself of upcoming appointments. Ultimately, it is about what works for me. Then I have a rectangle for notes or any other things I would like to jot down, or for when I run out of space on any given day. This rectangle is an 8x17 dotted squares.. I use the lower section of my left page to track her sleep. This matrix is made of 25 columns and 8 rows. The column header goes from 8:00 PM the previous night to 7:00 PM on the current day. My daughter has been going to bed consistently at the same time almost since she's been born. During the winter, she's usually in bed by 8:30 PM. Unfortunately, her body clock has not adopted daylight savings time, yet. (And to be honest with you, neither has mine!) This means that now she's been going to bed around 9:30 PM. I wish I could change that, but I've tried so many things and nothing works. I honestly don't mind much. I know that I'm going to bed later than what I would like to, but my boss is very kind and she also has a toddler at home. Therefore, there are many times when we both arrive to work closer to 9:00 AM than 8:00 AM. I shadow the squares for when she is asleep. The black exclamation marks you see on the blue shaded bars are for when she wakes up. We sometimes need to give her a bottle or just tend to her for whatever reason. If we don't get up from bed to go check on her, then I don't mark it down at all. Concerning the right page, Daily Notes, I reserve it for milestones, daily and general notes about my daughter's day, or any other thing I would like to remember or point out about her day in general. I write the day and then use as many lines as I need to. I haven't run out of space on any of these Daily Notes pages so far. If I do, I think I will just thread. We'll see when and if that situation ever comes up. I usually don't have time to decorate the pages that much as I'm at the office all day and then very busy taking care of my daughter once I pick her up from my mom's at the end of my working day. I like to keep things simple. However, there are weeks when I have a little more free time and I use it to brighten my pages up a little bit with some colours and drawings, like I did in the image above. What I'm trying to say is that you don't need to decorate your pages. In fact, the original bullet journal is very minimalist. I would even advise you to start with the basics and then personalize a bit more as you feel more comfortable with your bullet journal. I hope you like my spread and that you got some ideas of your own after seeing mine. Happy bullet journaling! Supplies
