a busy mom
and her bullet journal
I'm going to confess that this is going to be a totally show-off type of post. You're going to have to forgive me, but I'm happy. Why? Because when I was in Secondary School, I wanted to be a graphics designer. I was constantly drawing and sketching. My mother has a natural talent for it. My father also had a nag for it and he actually studied something related to that. I'm not sure what exactly because my parents separated right after I was born, I never really met my father, and my mother won't talk much about him. But one thing I know for sure is that he could design sailboats, he loved drawing, and he was really good at it. It even landed a job at a major automaker. I can't always come up with things from scratch. Like my mom, I'm much better at copying and adapting than creating something on my own. Either way, the more I bullet journal, the more of my old self that comes back, which is something I need right now since I am going through some hard and difficult times in my personal life. Sometimes there are half-full / half-empty pages left on my bullet journal. I like to go back to those pages and draw something on them. As I don't have enough time to sit down and complete the whole drawing in one sitting, it may take me several days to finish it. Nonetheless, it is something I have come to love doing, most especially because it gives me a few minutes to myself. Since I became a mother and went back to a full-time job, it has not been easy to get time for myself, to do things for my own enjoyment and fulfillment. Bullet Journalling is accomplishing two things for me at this time: Getting myself more organized and provide me a sense of being more in control of things that were turning into chaos before I found about the Bullet Journal, and giving me some time for myself.
Enough prelude! Here we go. This is my very first attempt to going back to my old self and I'm very, very happy with the results. I had a little over half a page left by the end of my August dailies and used that space. Have I already said how much I don't like wasting space, paper, or anything that can still be used to the case? Ha-ha! I'm still thinking about adding a quote or something to that lower-right corner, but I haven't found the inspiration, yet. You may be asking yourself, wasn't this supposed to be a practical blog for busy moms? How is a busy mom going to find time to draw? Wouldn't that be a waste of time? Well, yes, I think you're right to ask those questions and there are times when I spend time on myself and then I feel guilty because I should be doing laundry, I should be writing a technical specification for some process from work, or fill in the blank. And no, I do not have time to do this on a regular basis. That's why I said that I draw over meetings, when on the phone, when attending some phone conference and as long as I don't have anything else to do, etc. Why am I now trying to make time for me, even if it is stealing a minute or five here and there? Because I am learning that I can be a better mother and daughter and wife if I can spare some minutes of my day for my own fulfillment and enjoyment. Yes, we are mothers, we are daughters, we are wives, we are professionals, stay-at-home moms, whatever you have chosen to be or life chose you to be. However, we are still individuals with our own talents, desires, dreams, skills, abilities, limitations, faults, qualities, and more. We're still humans. And if we don't nurture our souls, we will grow resentful. It is not right for the sake of nurturing your own individuality to neglect the duties of our jobs, professions, and family. But it is not right either to completely put yourself last in the long list of chores and responsibilities I'm sure you have, same as I do. I am currently paying a high price for having done so. Don't make the same mistake I made and try to spare a few days of your day for yourself. You and your family will love you more if you take the time. It is your responsibility and nobody else will fulfill it for you. Happy journaling! Supplies
