a busy mom
and her bullet journal
For a couple of months, I have been running a list on Evernote of how I wanted my 2017 bullet journal to look like. Yes, you read that right: In Evernote. Why I did that instead of tracking this list directly in my bullet journal? I honestly don't know. I think it's because I was used to using Evernote from before I had ever heard of the Bullet Journal®. And probably because it is just easier. Sometimes I'm in bed and an idea crosses my mind. I honestly do not want to turn the light on, get out of the bed to look for my bullet journal and a pen and write down. It's just easier to jot certain things down on Evernote with my cell phone, I guess. Anyway, let's get back on track. I went to the very end of my bullet journal and started a clean list of what I wanted to have in my 2017 bullet journal and I used my Evernote note as a starting point. I already started my 2017 bullet journal about two weeks ago. I'm going slowly, but you can see my progress in the photograph below. On the left page of the thread, I have a running list of things that worked and didn't work for the year that's about to end. The list is a little bit longer now than when I took this photograph, but you can get the idea. On the right page, I keep my actual list of logs, collections, and lists along with some short notes as of how many pages I want it to take (a full spread or just a page) and the progress. As you can see in the picture above, the Index is in progress, I already created my list of signifiers, I created my year at a glance (this is not something in the original Bullet Journal® but it is something I need) along with important dates, such as holidays, feasts, birthdays, and anniversaries. I have also created my wish list. I migrated unfulfilled but still valid wishes from 2016 to this list. I can't wait to share all of this with you! I love the way these pages are turning out for next year. One thing that I still have pending for next year is my signifier magnifier. This an idea that I got from Tiny Ray of Sunshine Kim (see her original post here.) This turned out to be very useful for me, not so much for the signifiers I use on a regular basis, but for the ones I don't use as much since I tend to forget their meaning. For 2017, I'm going to be using two magnifiers: One for my signifiers, which I'm going to stick to the front cover of my bullet journal, and another one for my dot stickers, which I'm going to be sticking to the back cover. I got this idea from Page Flutter Megan (check her entry here where she also shares other bullet-journal hacks that actually work.) When I do share my pictures, you will notice that I'm drawing and doodling and so forth. I would like to repeat that you do not need to do all of this and you can keep it minimalist. I'm doing this because it helps me to release stress. Some people meditate, some people listen to music, Etc. I like to listen to music and draw. It relaxes me. This is the main reason why I started my bullet journal for 2017 so much in advance: So I don't feel rush and I needed a way to unwind. It takes me several days to finish a spread or log with these drawings, but this is because I may spend 15 minutes here or there first drawing and sketching what I want to include, then tracing, then adding colours, and so forth. By the time I'm done with a spread, it might have taken me from Monday through Friday, but not 40 hours; I think you know what I mean. Well, that is all for today at the moment. Feel free to ask any questions or share your comments and I hope you are all enjoying your own bullet journaling! See you next time! My Supplies
